2012 NTHU Academic Schedule Book

Introduction

key word: role play game

I joined 2012 NTHU Academic Schedule Book Publishing team. As a team, I closely worked with 3 other schoolmates from different colleges of the NTHU. The preliminary plan was initiated in that April. For your information, the NTHU Academic Schedule Book is one of the welcome gifts for the freshman students as a sort of the guidebook composed of the whole schedules of the import school activities and events along with those important national holidays and the school breaks in the new academic year. Of course, how to make this schedule book useful, interesting, and creative to most of the freshmen could have been identified as the top task goal to our team.

It is the 2nd terms for me to participate in this 2012 publishing task. The previous theme went with the outline for “12 kinds of life styles in the NTHU”, by classifying 12 kinds of schoolmates to speed up the freshman’s accessibility to the NTHU college life diversity. The user feedback was justified. Consequently, it did encourage me and my 2012 teammates to design another more awesome theme for 2012 at all our efforts. After several runs of brainstorming discussion, finally, we decided to use the role play game style to introduce the life in NTHU.

After identifying 2012 theme, we started to move on more specific detail in each monthly story. On the way, the team also clarified the following checking points such as ‘what display sequence to be good to present the NTHU’s life?’, ‘how to convert these events to the role paly game design?’, etc.

Our team decided to focus on coding the primary events by time logic and insert those relatively minor occasional events at random. Moreover, we also created a character, Xiao- Qing, to represent for the role of the freshman to adventure this good-famed but unknown NTHU’s world. The Big event like Mei-Chu tournament, the annual school fellowship competition between NTHU and NCTU, Freshman Stage Play competition, etc., all these events were translated into the medieval contests that the warrior had to fight for. The last and the best, the gentle advice from our team was highlighted after each symbolic mission action was taken.
